Sometimes, less is much more in a photograph. All that this composition has is a chunk of sandstone and some blue sky. Most photographers try to follow an artificial rule requiring that a person, or an animal or a tree, or something of known size be included in the image to give it scale. There isn't much question that in this image of Broken Arch in Arches National Park that it is a pretty big thing looming overhead. It just feels that way without any distracting compositional elements. I like the simplicity of this view with its two vivid complimentary colors.
